Our Ryedale Primary Choir strikes the right note

On Saturday 29th April our Ryedale Primary Choir took part in a concert “Give to me the life I love” at the church of St Peter and Paul, Pickering in partnership with the Ryedale Festival.  The concert featured a variety of community groups as well as Ryedale Festival’s artist in residence, tenor Nicky Spence.

One of our choir parents noted “thank you too for such an amazing opportunity for our children. I know they loved the performance and I was touched by how wonderful all the performers were”

The concert rehearsals started during the Easter holidays and included two full days of singing, craft activities and musical games. Really good fun was had by all with feedback from the children including “I have learnt how to keep notes going and many more things to help me achieve my goals” and “I learnt how to tell a story whilst singing and how to sing in different pitches”.

Our Ryedale Primary Choir is new for 2023 and is an exciting project for 7–11-year-olds. From June 2023 we will be expanding this to 7-13 years and all children are welcome from Ryedale and surrounding areas. Our next rehearsal will be on Friday 2nd June 2023 and new members are welcome! The Richard Shephard Music Foundation aims to offer musical opportunities and experiences to local children. This is through a variety of both curricular and extracurricular activities. As a composer, conductor, teacher and performer Richard Shephard changed the lives of hundreds of children across York and North Yorkshire (including Middlesbrough). The goal of the foundation is to extend that legacy and experience to thousands more children across the region.
