Make Music Day 2023

Our annual celebration of music, for young people from across the region, was a huge success with 300 children attending from schools in Middlesbrough, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, and York. Here's our special news article to share photos and comments from the day.

“I learnt how to play the Bamboo Tamboo (a Trinidadian percussion instrument), and the names of the instruments”

Pupil from Ainderby Steeple Primary C of E Primary School

“Our children very rarely play a musical instrument, I could see the happiness on their faces when they had the opportunity to. The children who find singing difficult/uncomfortable had the chance to enjoy music through a different medium”

School helper on the day

“I learnt that I can perform confidently.”

Pupil from Easterside Academy, Middlesbrough

“I felt really excited while I was on the bus because I really wanted to try brand new styles or types of musical instruments.”

Pupil from Ainderby Steeple Primary School

“I learnt how to sing folk songs and sea shanties”

Pupil from Middleham Primary School

Huge thanks to our supporters for helping to make this day happen. To our colleagues at Sing Education, our workshop leaders, volunteers, venues, and schools.

Make Music Day 2023 was part funded by York Music Hub using public funding from Arts Council England. Thank you to our friends at Sing Education, York St John University, and St Peter's School, York, for providing instruments for the day free of charge.
