February half term success.

Over February half term we held our first Ryedale primary choir rehearsal as well as a holiday club at Easterside Academy (Middlesbrough).

The Ryedale Primary Choir rehearsal included a taster of what is to come in the run up to the premiere concert on Saturday 29th April (tickets available here). The day included warm up games before starting to learn a variety of pieces. In the afternoon members also had a chance to showcase their musical skills to the group.

Really good fun was had and children gave feedback such as “I have learnt how to use my voice in a different way and different pitches” and “I learnt how to look and stand when you are singing.”

Our Ryedale Primary Choir is a new and exciting project for children aged 7 to 11 across the region. Our next rehearsals are planned for Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th April 2023 and new members are welcome. For further information or to book your child a place please get in touch: info@rsmf.org.uk

The following week we held our second music holiday club at Easterside Academy, Middlesbrough. The day included a morning of musical games and singing following by an afternoon ‘build a band' workshop run by Chris Lamb from musinc.

The newly formed band “The Golden Penguins” performed to family and friends at the end of the day with a chance for younger siblings to join in.

“Parents were amazed to see the  outcomes of the event and the smiles as they showed off their new found musical skills. Children absolutely loved the chance to use electric guitars, drum kits, keyboard. Plus siblings enjoyed the taster at the end of performance.” – Easterside Academy Teacher.

Feedback from the children included “It was amazing” and “I was happy that I got the chance to try new instruments.”

The Richard Shephard Music Foundation aims to offer musical opportunities and experiences to local children. As a composer, conductor, teacher and performer Richard Shephard changed the lives of hundreds of children across York and North Yorkshire (including Middlesbrough). The goal of the foundation is to extend that legacy and experience to thousands more children across the region.
